Announcing Test Data Import
We are always advocating for our users to see and adopt API mocking in a wider context. API mocking, when done right, can impact and accelerate every stage of feature development - but only if it's easy to do and only if the mocks are realistic enough to not create risks.
Last month, we announced the addition of our new test data generator, and this month we’re continuing to expand our abilities to help you create real, fake APIs by allowing you to easily import your own test data from a CSV.
Real Data, Real Benefits
Using your own data in mock APIs allows you to make sure the tests performed against those mocks match your applications’ reality. It’s simple: the more your test scenario resembles the real thing, the better you can prepare your app for real users.
This addition of realistic data to your API mocks guarantees that every test scenario with your mocks reacts exactly the same way as your live services. As a result, you will end up with more resilient services, less interrupted dev time and more time spent building the features that move your business forward.
How It Works
Setting up new data sources to import from is easy. Just navigate to the new data sources section.
From there, create a new data source.
Then, upload your CSV.
And, that’s it! You’re ready to pair your test data with your mock APIs.

Wrapping It Up: Mocks Keep Getting More Realistic
Using your own data in mock APIs is about making the use of mock APIs - which are faster, more affordable and more flexible to use than live APIs - more reliable and achievable.
At the end of the day, it's about saving time, catching bugs early, and making sure your app does what it should for your users. Real data lets you test real scenarios, which means fewer surprises when your app goes live.
